Amazing World Cup Soccer Statistics

With the World Cup now officially over, Lanseria would like to extend its gratitude to all the stakeholders that contributed to making this event into a proud, memorable occasion that will go down in the annals of history.

Over the past six weeks, Lanseria International Airport’s operations were tested to the limits. Only the dedicated and experienced leadership and staff compliment ensured the smooth travel arrangements of all that passed through our doors. Our thanks to them as well!

Below we have listed some statistics of our busiest time ever:

  • A total of 11 434 aircraft movements were logged, of which 5798 can be ascribed to WC 2010.
  • 458 Business jets made use of the airport, undertaking 2434 movements.
  • On the final day, 186 business jets were parked at the airport: 114 arriving on Sunday alone.
  • The Vice President of the United States of America utilised the airport, at one stage resulting in three C17 aircraft located on the ground
  • 14 Presidential flights were concluded.
  • John Travolta arrived in his own Boeing 707.
  • Paris Hilton and friends operating a Boeing 757 used the airport.
  • Andreas Bocelli arrived in a Falcon.
  • A total of 72 VVIP operations were performed.
  • 30 Team movements were arranged for Portugal, Australia, Brazil and Germany.
  • Aircraft parking required 2823 tow operations.
